- Orthodontic Resident Case Display -
AAO Annual Session - Orlando, May 1-3, 2026
AAO Case Display Chair: Councilors Dr. Nipul Tanna and Dr. Valerie Jenkins
Last Day to Register is Friday, 4/24/26
1) Cases must have been treated within the last 5 years and within the residency program. No outside transfer cases. Cases may only be shown once at the AAO Case Display.
2) Treatment must be completed by one resident and/or a second resident whom the patient was transferred. These “transfer” cases should have a letter from the faculty confirming that the cases were treated by the residents.
3) Case models must follow ABO standards to include either plaster or 3-D printed models (hollow or full base) and ABO Case Display paperwork included in a 3-ring binder with required cover sheet (Cover Sheet Link and you can also request it via email at info@cdabo.org).
All Case Display submission, documentation and write up should follow the exact same standard and format that is required by the ABO for mail-in case submission. For the ABO ID# and Case # you can write not applicable.
4) All patient identifying information must be redacted. All school information must be redacted in the paperwork, so it is only listed on the cover sheet.
5) All Case Displays must be picked up by 3pm on Sunday, 5/3/26.
A Residency program can submit a maximum of TWO cases, for 2026
One case with DI of 10-19 and the second case with DI of 20 or greater
There will be first, second, and third awards in each of the two DI case categories sponsored by the ABO.
Presenting orthodontic residency cases at the AAO Annual Session can be both personally rewarding and a valuable self-assessment experience. The ABO strongly encourages residents to gain extensive experience in reviewing patient cases and conducting objective analyses to develop independent clinical judgment. Engaging in this critical thinking process fosters meaningful reflection on treatment decisions and outcomes.
While case submissions are an accomplishment in and of themselves, we are pleased to announce, beginning in 2026, the ABO will now be offering awards for the top-ranked CDABO case displays.
The following prizes will be awarded in both DI10 and DI20 categories:
First Place: $1,000 | Second Place: $750 | Third Place: $500
Winning residents and the program faculty will be recognized in the Exhibit Hall on Saturday, 5/2/26, at 3:30pm with more details to follow.
